Senior Project Construction Accountant Bookkeeper
Project Construction Accountant supports construction project teams by managing all financial and accounting activities related to assigned projects. This role ensures accurate job cost tracking, timely billing, payment processing, and financial reporting from project start through closeout. The ideal candidate brings strong accounting fundamentals, construction industry knowledge, and the ability to collaborate across project teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage full-cycle project accounting from project setup through closeout
- Set up projects in accounting and job cost systems; review contracts for financial requirements
- Track and reconcile job costs, including labor, materials, subcontractors, and change orders
- Prepare and submit monthly owner billings, including AIA draw applications where applicable
- Process and review subcontractor invoices, lien releases, and payment applications
- Ensure accurate and timely payments to subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors
- Reconcile general ledger and project accounts; resolve discrepancies
- Monitor project budgets, committed costs, and cost-to-complete reporting
- Partner with Project Managers to provide financial insights and variance analysis
- Maintain organized project financial records in compliance with company policies
- Assist with audits and respond to internal and external financial inquiries
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in construction or project-based environments
- Working knowledge of job cost accounting and construction financial processes
- Experience with construction accounting software (e.g., Sage, Timberline, Procore, Viewpoint, or similar) preferred
- Commercial & Residential
- Strong Excel skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Effective communication and collaboration skills
Preferred Skills
- Experience with AIA billing and project draw schedules
- Understanding of lien laws, waivers, and compliance requirements
- CPA-track a plus
- Experience supporting large or multi-entity construction projects
